Here Are The Basic Table Etiquettes You Are Expected To Follow While Dining

So you are out for a high-profile corporate team lunch and the CEO happens to sit right next to you. You start shitting bricks because you have absolutely no idea about how to go about using the assortment of cutlery all around you. This article will surely teach you the basic etiquettes that you need to follow while dining at the table.

Scoop your soup away from you. But don't spill it on the person sitting across you.

If your food is too hot, wait for it to cool. It's rude to blow (on your food)!

Don't go bonkers cutting all your food open. Easy tiger. Cut one bite at a time.

Always pass salt and pepper together, even if somebody asks only for salt.

Once you pick up silverware from the table, it should never be placed back on it. Rest it on the plate between bites.

Break your bread into bite-sized pieces. Meals are called "breaking bread" for a reason.

Never apply butter to the whole bread. Do it piece by piece after you've broken the bread.

Use the utensil that is farthest away from you first and work your way to the centre. If you notice your host deviating from this pattern, follow suit. The host is always right.

Wait for the host or hostess to start before you start eating.

Food should be passed around in a counter-clockwise manner (to your right). But if the lady to your left wants that bowl ofpasta , be nice and oblige.

The knife and fork should be held with handles in the palm of the hand, forefinger on top, and thumb underneath.

Fingers should never be used to push food into your spoon. Focus. You can do it without your fingers.

The fork should be placed with tongs upwards and the edge of the knife facing the centre of the plate.

Once you're done eating, place the knife and fork in a 4:20 fashion in the centre of the plate.

Follow the rule of BMW (Bread, Meal, Water). Breads to your left, meal in the centre, water to your right.

Turn off your mobile phone. It's rude to be on your phone when you're in the company of others.

It's impolite to sip your drink while you're still chewing your food. Wait. Swallow your food and then sip.

It's rude to add salt or pepper to your food before tasting it.

Wait for the host/hostess to unfold the napkin and place it on his/her lap before you unfold yours.

The fork should be in the left hand while the knife should be in the right.

Avoid placing your elbows on the table while eating. Practice makes a man perfect.

While conversing though, it's okay to prop your elbows up on the table. Phew! Thank God!

Napkins should be used only to dab your lips and not for blowing your nose.

While leaving for the restroom, place the napkin on your chair.

And once you rise to leave after your meal, loosely fold the napkin and place it to the left of your plate. Again, wait for the host to go first.

While eating out, wait for everyone to be served before picking up your fork.

At a private dinner, pick up the fork only when the host/hostess does so.

While drinking from your glass, look into it and not over it.

While at a restaurant, never shout out to the waiter. Make eye contact.

And in case your eyes don't meet, raise your right hand with the index finger slightly raised.

If you're drinking from a wine glass, hold it by the stem.

Match your eating pace with that of the others so that you finish your meal around the same time as them.

Do not pick the meat stuck to your canines with your fingernails. Use a toothpick. If there's none at the table, go to the bathroom and do the honours.

Do not stretch yourself across the table to get to that pot of soup. Ask the person closest to it to pass it to you.

While indulging in that dessert, you can use both a fork and a spoon. If it's just cake, you may use just the fork.

Do not lick your knife or put it in your mouth. You don't want to end up with a slashed tongue.

Avoid talking with food in your mouth. If you've been asked a question, wait until you gulp the food down before answering.

Eat with your mouth closed. Food looks good on your plate and not in your mouth.

If you do not like something, just brave on.

Toasts can be raised at any time during the meal once all glasses are full. Usually it's one of the guests who initiates the toast.

Ladies, you may reapply your lipstick after the meal, but it should end there. No applying make up to the whole face.

And lastly, always thank the host before leaving.

So the next time you go out for that office lunch, you know exactly what to do.

I regret not privatising NNPC – Ex President says

OBJ said this at a maritime stakeholders’ conference organised by the ministry of transportation in Lagos state, on Monday, May 16, 2016.
Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for the privatisation of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), National Inland Waterways Authority and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA).

OBJ also said he regretted not privatising the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
He said this at a maritime stakeholders’ conference organised by the ministry of transportation in Lagos state, on Monday, May 16, 2016.
The former President said “I was instrumental to the reform and establishment of the NNPC from the Nigerian National Oil Corporation. Had I known that it would be mismanaged, I would have done something better. I would have privatised it and put it on the stock Exchange.
“The NLNG didn’t go the way of the NNPC because of the way it was organised. Fifty-one per cent is owned by private investors, both foreign and indigenous, while 49 per cent is owned by the government. In fact, the NLNG has been making money ever since the initial capital investment. From three trains, we are going to seven trains.”
OBJ also added that “The institutions that are important in the country, which have not worked, we have to make them work. We can use the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas company as a model.
“We should look into these areas and think outside of the box. Until the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency became a place where people stole money, nobody knew much about it. Now, everybody wants to work there. Look at the National Inland Waterways Authority, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron and the Nigeria Ports Authority, which we tried to privatise. These are institutions we can make to work.”
A former Governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu accused former President Obasanjo of using anti-corruption agencies to settle political scores.

Reps ask labour to call-off strike

The resolution was moved by Hon. Nicholas Ossai, during a meeting with the minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu on Monday, May 16, 2016.
Chambers of the Nigerian House of Representatives.

The House of Representatives have called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to shelve their planned protest against the recent increment in the pump price of fuel.

The Federal Government announced the removal of subsidy and a subsequent increase in price of petrol to N145 on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.
The resolution was moved by Hon. Nicholas Ossai, during a meeting with the minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwuon Monday, May 16, 2016.
The lawmakers also set up a committee to meet with labour and government to reach an agreement so the strike can be averted.
The ad hoc committee is headed by the House Whip, Alhassan Doguwa.
Meanwhile, negotiations between the Federal Government and labour ended in a deadlock.
According to reports, labour insisted that the government should increase the minimum wage of workers.
The government on the other hand, argued that the call for an increase in minimum wage was ill timed.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) announced that it will embark on a nationwide strike on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, to protest the increase in the fuel pump price from N86 and N86.50k to N145 per litre by the Federal Government.

The Father Of My 2 Sons Said Am Not Good For Marriage & Now i'm Almost 38- Confused Lady

Hello Famz,

I must not fail to start by admitting that I committed heavy blunder in my life. I was friends

with the father of my boys ( a medical doctor) for 2yrs before I agreed to date him. Back then
he worshipped at the same church with me (Dominion City) and I fell for him. That was 11 years
ago. I am almost 38 now and still single. My story is a long one but I will try to be brief. I met
him in church and he asked me out after some few months of being cordial.

I like him and I agreed. In the process i got pregnant for him which he never denied but he
changed after my mum reported us to the church and used our church marriage committee
to force him to come and at least pay my dowry so my child will not be born out of wed-luck.
They summoned us and Punished us for rebelling against the rules and regulations of d the
church in marriage proceedings. He disgraced my womanhood that day. I would never forget
that day all the days of my life. He told d marriage committee dt am not good for him as wife
material that he wont marry me but he ll take care of the baby.

He accused me of seducing him which was far from the truth. His anger was because I refused
to have an abortion and he accused me of trying to tie him down. he even called my mum
a gold digger there. Like joke; like joke he left the church and went back to catholic church but
kept sending money.

After 9 months i put to bed my son in the hospital where he works. He kept taking care of us
and got me a 2 room apartment at Emene. He even begged me to forgive him that it was
shame that made him overreact.

He do visit us time to time taking his son out for shopping. Around 2013, Doc were ejected out
of his apartment at Damija trans ekulu by the new owner who bought the house from his
former landlord. he packed in with us promising to get a house shortly. I accepted based on
my son plea for his daddy and because i thought he was genuinely changed. What happened
to me in the process i cant explain. Just found out that i was pregnant for him again. I wept but
cant help it. I gave birth to another boy yet not married to him.

He has gotten an apartment around upper chime new haven and moved in leaving me with his
two sons to take care of..what ve i done to myself. single mother of two. no husband of my own.
He just kept me there and sends money for me and his sons. He is still single and almost 43 yet
he keeps saying he is not ready. His mum keeps visiting us and comforting me and honestly,
that's what has kept me going.

I have tried to deny him s3x over a long period thinking that it may change him instead he seem
to become more distant that when I allow him. At least, when I allow him, he can sometimes
spend nights and some weekends now I don't even see him just keep receiving alert every 2
weeks.

I must admit that he takes care of us well but I am not happy. This was not the plans i wanted
for my future. I want a real home with proper marriage. I have prayed, I have fasted. i have been
faithful. yet no show. Plz i need urgent attention on my situation. age is not on my side anymore.

Pls wot do i do in this situation?

Pregnancy Symptoms Before Missed Period

Have you been planning on having a baby for a long time and are now waiting for that typical sign of a missed period to confirm the fact that you are pregnant?
Well, maybe you don’t really need to wait so long. Sometimes, the answer is just right there and it is believed that certain pregnancy symptoms before missed period are more eminent than others. Often, we tend to undermine these ‘other signs’, as we lack the ability to understand and interpret such signs our body might be sending us to signify a successful fertilization.
Motherhood is an experience that gets you feeling complete and is undoubtedly one of the most enriching and important experiences of being a woman. It is that unique cord that connects the mother with her little baby. The bond tends to stay quite strong all our lives, despite the children growing up and develop as independent individuals. If you are planning to have a baby, you may need to pay attention to the changes that your body will now undergo. It is important for a woman to understand her body and acknowledge the changes she will go through, as and when she gets pregnant.

Pregnancy Symptoms Before Missed Period:

As your body prepares itself for the little spurt of life inside, it may present a few minor pregnancy symptoms before your ‘missed period’ to help you understand and know whether you are actually expecting or not.
1. Changes In Daily Life:
There are small, indiscriminate changes that you may feel, as your body and mind readies for what is to come your way. It is important to understand some basic human anatomy here. Your body goes through the menstruation cycle and is guided by the fluctuating levels of hormones estrogen and progesterone. Once you get pregnant, your progesterone level rises and stops the normal process of menstrual bleeding. This helps the body start preparing for the baby and as time passes it signals that an embryo is in existence.
2. Nausea:
While many women would undermine having that nauseated feeling was may be due to a wrong meal or misplaced sleep, but it is one of the first indicators that you may have conceived. It is mostly referred to as morning sickness that many women experience during their pregnancy. Nausea is triggered due to increase in the levels of estrogen and progesterone. These two hormones slow down digestion and lead to inability to hold food inside. So, it is advisable not to ignore that early morning-throw ups and do a quick pregnancy test if you are planning to have a baby. Most women skip this sign altogether or sometimes ignore it. Don’t pop pills thinking that you are having heartburn or acid reflux, have medicines prescribed by doctors. Steer clear from antibiotics, if you are facing any of the above mentioned symptoms.
3. Breasts Are Tender And Feel Swollen:
A female body is designed naturally to ensure well-being of the baby growing inside. Your mammary glands or breasts are designed to feed your baby with all the possible nutrition. If you are becoming increasingly sensitive to any kind of touch to your breasts, you could be very much pregnant. In some cases, the hormones will work to make your breasts very sensitive, sore, tender and highly ticklish. Also, you might feel them getting bigger, heavier and fuller as time passes and you progress into motherhood.
4. Tiredness And Fatigue:
As your body starts to prep itself for the pregnancy and the upcoming changes that are going to happen over a period of time; you will get tired and feel fatigued and exhausted very often. The rising levels of progesterone hormone are indicators that signify that the body is starting to prepare itself for pregnancy, which leads to tiredness and fatigue.
Medical practitioners at Mayo Clinic advice to take rest during the first few weeks of pregnancy since they are crucial. Take it a little easy on your work during pregnancy and give priority to your health. The chances of miscarriages are high during the first week of pregnancy so you have to be extra careful. Plan your maternity leave and talk with your doctor regarding the nature of your occupation, if the doctor advises you to take an early leave don’t hesitate to take one. He might also ask you take leaves according to the nature of your pregnancy, if he detects any complications then he will ask you to take an early leave during pregnancy.
5. Your Food Habits Get Surprising:
Anxious to know how food habits get included in the list of early symptoms of pregnancy before missed period? Then here is your answer. If you are pregnant, changing levels of estrogen will enhance your sensory organs and it can trigger a change in your perception of certain foods. Also it could cause an aversion to some foods as well. You will feel hungry more than usual and find yourself craving a lot. Notice whether you are having a desire to have some food that you used to hate earlier, but liking it now. If this is the case, it’s good to go for a pregnancy strip test at home, as it could not just be an odd unusual day that you feel heightened sense of smell.
